Ruth Elizabeth (nee Maldiner) Farino, 89, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2016 at Buffalo General Hospital/Hospice. Born on February 8, 1927 in North Tonawanda, she was the beloved daughter of the late Frank and Veronica (Roy) Maldiner. Ruth was predeceased by sisters Jean V. Weber and Marie M. Jenkins. Cherished wife of the late James J. Farino and mother of the late Joseph J. Farino.

Loving mother of James M. (Christine) Farino, Louise M. (Donald) Casciano, Frank J. (Patricia) Farino, Mary V. Sullivan. Proud grandmother of Carrie E. (Matthew) Inderlied, Jay D. (Jessica) Farino, Jared J. (Kellyn) Farino, Ruth A. Casciano, Sarah L. Casciano, Amanda L. (Dave) Zaccaria, Paul J. (Jaquelene) Farino, Patrick D. (Amanda) Sullivan, Kate M. (Casey) Rohring, Danielle (Thomas) Buczek, and Elizabeth (Aaron) Stom. Ruth was blessed with great grandchildren: Savannah P. Inderlied, Dakota E. Farino, Hailey R. Sullivan, Jozef T. and Aleksander J. Buczek. Also survived by John (Diane) Farino, Delores (Bruce) Burghard, Susan J. Farino, Daniel W. Sullivan, several nieces, nephews and friends.

A graduate of North Tonawanda High School, Ruth was a member of the first graduating class of nurses from Niagara University. Always involved in the care, healing and helping of others, she began her Nursing Career at DeGraff Hospital. She worked as a School Nurse and as a nursing supervisor at Georgian Court Nursing Home. Ruth and James owned and operated Farino Opticians in North Tonawanda for many years.

Ruth loved spending time with her family, friends, sorority sisters, going to church, playing cards, Bingo and collecting memorabilia. She enjoyed her family cottage at Long Beach, Canada. She will be remembered as a champion card player who never refused an offer to play. Ruth will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Friends received by the family on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the BRUNNER FUNERAL HOME, (692-3841) 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Christopher R.C. Church, 2660 Niagara Falls Blvd., Tonawanda on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. (Please assemble at the church) Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemtery.
