Roger Carl von Doenhoff Obituary
Federal Way, WA - Roger Carl von Doenhoff fought glioblastoma and passed peacefully in Seattle on May 18, 2026, with his wife Jayne at his side. He was the dear little brother of Barbara (Stickney) and Laura (Morrissey).
He was born February 12, 1956 in Niagara Falls to a grieving family as our sweet ray of sunshine, and he brought humor and adventure into our lives. He spent much of his childhood climbing trees, building docks and rafts and playing in Cayuga Creek behind our house, fiddling with motors, and navigating his boat on the Niagara River. His adventurous spirit guided his life, and he had many stitched wounds to show for it.
Roger graduated from Michigan State University with high honors in mechanical engineering in 1980, then moved to Seattle and worked for Boeing for 39 years, where he was a highly valued employee. He was an uncommonly intelligent, funny, goofy, helpful, compassionate, loving and kind man, a vegetarian and a lover of all animals, an eternal optimist, a prince. He engaged others in his love of competitive table tennis, skiing, backpacking, tennis, scuba diving, golf, Spanish, classic rock music, ballroom dance, ballet, and volleyball, through which he met Jayne, the love of his life.
He is predeceased by his parents Carl and Phyllis and by his older brother David, whom he never met. He is sorely missed by Jayne, Barbara, Laura, and a huge, loving extended family. His star shone brightly. His celebration of life will be held in Seattle on the summer solstice, June 21. Memorial donations can be made to Fred Hutch Cancer Research at https://fredhutch.org or to the ASPCA at https://secure.aspca
