John O'Leary Obituary

Ruther Glen, VA - John O'Leary, of Ruther Glen, VA, formerly of St. Marys, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 with family members by his side. He was born in the Bronx, NY, to James and Mary O'Leary on January 25, 1937.

John was employed for twenty-six years by Airco Speer starting in the furnace room. Always knowing he would not be able to do this type of hard labor at a later age, John took the initiative to go back to school so that he could continue his education. He did all this while raising a family of four, being a devoted husband, and still working a full-time job. This would later pay off as he was promoted to Director of Labor Relations at Airco Speer. Later John worked for Keystone Powdered Metal Company as the Director of Labor Relations and Safety. John then made a career change to become the Vice President of Human Resources at St. Marys Regional Medical Center before retiring.

John was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Church in Lady Smith, VA. He was the former president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. John was known for his sense of humor and enjoyed many hobbies. These included boxing, water skiing, jogging, racquetball, softball, playing songs from memory on the button accordion, and he was an avid football and hockey fan, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Lou O'Leary; his parents, James O'Leary and Mary O'Leary; his sister Clare Manzi; and his brother James O'Leary.

He is survived by his children, Eileen M. Falcone (Rich), Colleen M. O'Leary, John P. O'Leary (Cathy), and Kevin P. O'Leary (Marsan); his grandchildren, Lara Omick (Joey), Kelsey O'Leary, Morgan Reynolds (Mark), Liam O'Leary (Taylor), Colin O'Leary, Bryce O'Leary, and Sydney O'Leary; and his great-grandchildren, Charlie Omick, Jack Omick, and Nora Reynolds.

As requested by the family a private Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 14th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Annunciation Roman Catholic Church, 10306 Ladysmith Rd, Ladysmith, VA 22501, with burial of the same to follow at St. Mary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners' Children Hospital, https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/ways-to-give/donate, as well as to St. Jude's https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
