Ivy George Prentice Obituary

Ivy George Prentice, 84, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on March 17, 2020 at his residence. Born in Yatesboro, PA, he was the son of the late James and Mary (Connell) Prentice.

Ivy came to Niagara Falls as a child with his father, attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He served proudly in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. On February 15, 1958, Ivy married Patricia "Pat" (Horne) Prentice at St. John de LaSalle Church in Niagara Falls. Ivy worked at Kimberly Clark for 15 years, and most recently at the New York State Power Authority as Chief Warehouse Supervisor for 23 years prior to his retirement in 1994.

After high school, Ivy played various competitive fast pitch softball leagues. Most notably, he played on the Simon Pure Fast Pitch Softball team that won the New York State Championship in 1960, 1963, and 1964. In addition, Ivy was an avid golfer who played in the Industrial Golf League for over 20 years at Hyde Park Golf Course. Throughout his years playing at Hyde Park, Ivy developed many longstanding friendships. He was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills, and enjoyed watching sports on television with his wife. Above all, Ivy will be remembered as a wonderful man who had a great devotion and love for his family, including his grand-dogs.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Ivy is survived by his children, James (Mary Ellen) Prentice, Sheri (Edward) Glaser, David Prentice and Robert (Michelle) Prentice; his grandchildren, Jamie Prentice, Krista Prentice, Lauren Prentice, Lindsay Prentice, Michael Prentice, Kelsey Prentice, Zachary Glaser, Margaret Glaser, Dennis (Capri) Prentice and Julianne Prentice; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Eli and Johanna Prentice; his sister, Margaret (late Clifford) Day; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be no prior visitation. Private funeral services and interment at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel with Military Honors will be held at the convenience of the family.
