Niagara Falls, NY - Frank (Br. Gabriel) Balassone, OFM, 92, died peacefully on March 1, 2026 in Cincinnati, Ohio where he resided. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Frank was the beloved son of the late Gaetano and Francesca (LaCivita) Balassone.

Frank attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1955. From 1955 to 1957, he served as a seaman in the United States Navy. His love for music led him to the State University of New York at Fredonia where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in fine arts, majoring in music.

Inspired to serve as a brother, he applied to join the Order of Friars Minor and was received into the Order on August 15, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was on the faculty at Duns Scotus, the Franciscan School of Philosophy in Southfield, MI where he served in multiple roles over 24 years, including faculty music instructor, assistant director of lay students, glee club conductor, library director and music director. Since 1997 he served at the St. Anthony Shrine and friary in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Frank is survived by his siblings, Norma (late Angelo) Colao and Domonic (Marge) Balassone: as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and his brother friars. In addition to his parents, Frank was predeceased by his sisters Ann (late Mario) Beccari and Mary Colao.

Frank was laid to rest on Friday, March 6, 2026, with a funeral mass at St. Clement Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
