Niagara Falls - Douglas Johnson, 79, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed away on January 3, 2025 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility. Born on November 21, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Melvin Maurice and Mary Kay (Hill) Johnson and the husband of Jeanne Helen (Monk) Johnson.
Douglas graduated from Lasalle Senior High School and the University at Buffalo, in 1967, earning his Bachelors Degree. He retired from the Niagara County Department of Social Services and worked previously for Family and Children's Services of Niagara and Horizons.
Douglas loved the Buffalo Bills, NY Giants, the New York Yankees, Buffalo Sabres, gardening and his animals. He belonged to GREAT Greyhound Rescue.
In addition to his beloved wife, Douglas is survived by two children, Joel (Donna) Johnson and Sara (Michael Rimmen) Johnson; grandchildren, Tehya, Leah and Brady; siblings, Barbara VandeWater, Sue (late Joseph) Kelly and Janice (Paul) Bowen; many nieces and nephews and special friends, Ronald and Linda Brown, Jr. and Ernest (late Rose) Patak.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to Schoellkopf Health Care Facility for their loving care for Douglas.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Wednesday, January 8th, from 4-7 p.m., at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007), where a funeral service will follow visitation at 7:00 p.m. If desired donations may be made to the Niagara County SPCA.
