Charles "Mack" McCalister passed away at 85 years of age on December 9, 2019, suddenly. He was born December 9, 1934, in Niagara Falls, New York, the son of the late Graham and Eleanor (Arnold) McCalister.
Chuck was raised in Niagara Falls and was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School, the class of 1952. He briefly worked at Paper Box Company before enlisting in the US Navy. He served four years active duty and 23 and a half years in the reserves. Chuck worked as an electrician and quality control officer, serving aboard various ships, including his first assignment aboard the destroyer USS John Hood.
He was employed by Hooker Chemical Company as an electrician, retiring in 1996 after 37 and a half years of service. He was past Master of Masonic Lodge 1049 F&AM; and past patron of Star of LaSalle OES and Flagler Chapter 355 OES.
Chuck was a lifetime member of the Frontier Volunteer Fire Company, St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Company, the American Legion Post 1451, VFW Post 54, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association Tin Can Sailors, 32nd Degree, Scottish Rite Ancient Accepted and various other retiree organizations.
He is survived by daughters, Cheryl (Richard) Kratts of Wheatfield, Cathleen (Rich) Donner of Wheatfield, Patricia (Jill Webb) McCalister of Sanborn, NY; a sister, Eleanor (McCalister) Bengyiak of Vero Beach, Florida; his special companion of nine years, Audrey Nachreiner of Whearfield; five grandchildren, Kyle, Andrew, Derek, James and Adam; and seven great-grandchildren. He was sadly predeceased by his wife, Sally.
Family present on Thursday from 3 PM until 8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will be held Friday at 11 AM. The interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Legion or Lions Club.
