Annabelle Portman Leveson Obituary

Annabelle Leveson, 92, of Williamsville, NY, died on August 2, 2016 at Canterbury Woods after a lengthy illness. Previously, she was a resident of Niagara Falls, NY, for 66 years. She was born in Akron, OH, on September 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Julius and Sophie (Snyder) Portman.

Annabelle graduated in 1941 from Buchtel High School, Akron. She worked in her mothers Akron restaurant where she met her future husband, Dr. Lawrence Leveson. They were married for 61 years and she was employed at Leveson Veterinary Clinic for 40 years as business manager until their retirement in 1986.

She enjoyed entertaining, gourmet cooking, travel, and was a gifted artist and calligrapher. Active in community affairs, Annabelle was a long time member of Temple Beth El, Niagara Falls, serving as President of the Sisterhood and chairperson of many committees over the years. She was member of the NY State Womens' Veterinary Auxiliary, served as Chairperson of the Womens' Division of the United Jewish Appeal, secretary for the Downtown Neighborhood Betterment Committee, a patient advocate at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and a volunteer with Dr. Fichte, eye doctor. Annabelle was an avid golfer.

Surviving are her son, James (Billie) Leveson of Jamestown, NY; four grandchildren, Thomas (Joycetta Jones) Leveson of Colorado Springs, CO, Jason (Rebecca) Leveson, of Fishers, IN, Elaine (Hideaki) Minamizono of Bellingham, WA, Lawrence (Carlin Longley) Winegrad of Oakland, CA; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney and Samantha Leveson, Olivia and Liam Minamizono. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Pearl Glazman and Leona Whitehead; and her daughter, Jill Winegrad.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family as Annabelle donated her body to the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Anatomical Gift Program. There will be no visitation.
