Ann Heil Obituary

Evansville, Indiana - Ann Heil Obituary

On May 21 Our Mom passed peacefully to join Dad (Frederick William (Bill) Heil, Jr.) on their next adventure. They met in kindergarten and spent 65 years together raising a family and having grand adventures before Dad passed in 2020.

Ann was born in Niagara Falls, NY and was raised in Lewiston, NY. She attended Allegheny College and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

Bill's career took them to Tarrytown, NY where they started their family. Twins Frederick William III (Maureen) and Susan Ann (Kevin Wessel) were followed by Elizabeth Louise (Teri Rawlings). Eventually they returned to Western New York where they were close to both sets of parents: Frederick William, Sr and Josephine (Taylor) Heil and George John and Elma (Pierce) Mack. She is also survived by her Swedish exchange student daughter, Helena Adolfson of Sarna, Sweden.

Ann volunteered for several organizations including Meals On Wheels, Boy Scouts of America (as a den mother), Girl Scouts of the USA (as a troop helper), Youngstown Civic Guild, and Food Co-Op, among others.

Summers were spent in Muskoka and Haliburton, Ontario at lake front cottages where she taught her children to swim, water ski, and enjoy the simple things - sunsetting, cocktails on the porch, star gazing, levitating the table, hanging spoons off her nose, raucous cribbage games, and how to have an epic food fight!

After their children graduated high school they relocated to Glen Gardner, NJ. During that time, they welcomed their 4 grandchildren: Owen Henry, Frederick William IV, Alexander Harris Heil and Kathryn Louise Heil-Rawlings.

After retirement Ann and Bill moved to Green Valley, Arizona and used that as home base for their world travels. They saw the beauty of the world and formed wonderful friendships. Some of their favorite trips were Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Europe, South America, the Mediterranean, and Alaska. They even sailed across the Atlantic twice on a tall ship!

In 2017 they moved to Indiana to be closer to family.

Family and friends will remember Ann for her love of bad puns, her numerous dogs, her love of oysters, the hundreds of cookies she baked and decorated every Christmas, her knowledge of birds and nature, her antiquing trips, dying all the food green for breakfast on St Patrick's Day, opening her heart and home to many international exchange students, the kid parties in the basement- the house was never quiet, and the guidance she freely offered.

The family will fondly remember sailing trips on the Great Lakes and Lake Muskoka where Dad may have been Captain but Mom was the Admiral!

Thanks Mom, for letting us survive to adulthood (what? Grounded for life AGAIN??) and supporting our decisions and supporting us along the way.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve (wesselmanwoods.org) or It Takes A Village- No Kill Rescue (itvrescue.org).
