Virginia's Story

Virginia R. (Peden) DeFazio, 88, of Wheatfield, NY, passed from this life on Friday, April 8, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. Born on July 23, 1927 in Massena, NY, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Lillian (Smith) Peden. On September 15, 1946, she married Dominic DeFazio.

Mrs. DeFazio moved to Pittsburgh, PA following high school, where she attended Pittsburgh Music Institute. In 1964, Virginia came to Niagara Falls, and was employed as a bookkeeper for Empire Builders. She then moved to California in 1978, and worked as a Property Manager in both Van Nuys and Sylmar, California and returned to Niagara Falls in 1986, following retirement. Mrs. DeFazio was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Niagara Falls, where she served as a Deacon and choir member. Virginia and her husband co-wrote numerous songs when they were dating and in the early years of their marriage.

In addition to her beloved husband of over 69 years, Mrs. DeFazio is survived by four children, Robert DeFazio, Dominic J. (Annelie) DeFazio, Mark DeFazio and Cheryl (Dennis) Gleason; former daughters-in-law, Rebecca, Kihae and Adriana DeFazio; grandchildren, Peter, Michelangelo, Francesca, Christopher, Elida and Lara DeFazio, Ryan, Stephen and Sarah Gleason and Jessica Layman; 12 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Gary and David Osier and several cousins. In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by three siblings, Verne Peden, Dorothy Ciesielski and Jean Peden.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church, 311 First Street, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT THE CHURCH. Private interment will be held in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.
