Sybil Joyce (Pope) Baker, 85, of Niagara Falls was joyously received by her heavenly father on April 12, 2017. Born in Bessemer, AL on May 7, 1931 to Lemuel and Vivian Pope.
Sybil's family moved to Niagara Falls when she was a young girl. She attended and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. Before graduation at a dance at Calvary Baptist she met the love of her life, John W. Baker, Jr. Their life began together when they exchanged vows on August 11, 1951. Together they had three beautiful daughters, Judithann Baker-Tyrrell (fiance' Mike), Janet Baker Scott (Jeff), and Jacqueline Baker. In time, their family expanded to include seven beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Hummel, Carleen Krysa-Wills(Dan), John W. Baker III, Gina Bane, Christopher Fournier, Dana Tyrrell, Jr. and Carolyn Tyrrell. Additionally Sybil cherished six great-grandsons, Bryce, Tyler, Alphonso, Cameron, Daniel, John and Cal. She is also the sister of Geraldine (late Ronald) Sutter, Janet Pope and Edward Pope. She was predeceased by four siblings, Floyd (Shirley) Pope, Joeanne Wagner, Mary Sutter and Darleen Hausser.
Sybil had a rich life. She was employed by WT Grants and E.I. DuPont from which she retired. She was an active member of Niagara Community Church for more than thirty years. She was passionate about her service to the church. She enjoyed a variety of roles, including volunteering in the church office, running the food pantry and being a greeter. She enjoyed gardening and those who got to experience her gardens marveled at the beauty she was able to create. She loved reading, crocheting, baking but most of all being with her family. She was joyously reunited with her late husband, John W. Baker, Jr. in Heaven. He predeceased her on April 9, 2000.
