Shirley A. (Fillman) Bathurst, of Niagara Falls, has gone to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. She was 92. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on February 15, 1924, the daughter of the late Oscar and Margaret (Smith) Fillman. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.
Mrs. Bathurst had a long working career. She worked for the former WT Grants Department Store as their business manager, the former Marine Midland Bank, working as a teller and at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's gift shop. She retired from the hospital in 2005.
Very active in her community, she was a longtime member of the American Legion John J. Welch Post, Ladies Auxiliary serving as its President and Chaplain; the Buff Social Club, where she enjoyed Euchre nights on Thursday's. She also liked bowling, bocce ball and swimming.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Bathurst in 1969. She is survived by her four children, Barry (Sue) Bathurst of Palmyra, PA; Shirley A. Bathurst and Betty (Mark) Witczak, both of Niagara Falls; Eric A. (Staci) Bathurst of Little River, SC; grandchildren, Paul (Jen) Archie, Julie (Ben) Ricke, Becky (Dave) Schmaldienst, Laura Bathurst and Sydnei Bathurst; 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Verna Spalding and two brothers, Elmer and Arty Clayton.
Family will be present Thursday, May 26th from 4-7 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. The interment and graveside services will be held privately with family only at Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton, NY., with the Rev. Matthew Kofahl officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, memorials, may be made to Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence or to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY.
We would like to thank everybody at Our Lady of Peace, especially the nurses and aids on 1 West who took care of our Mom. Also, a special thank you to her singing partner, Music Man Brian Beaudry.
