Pastor Walter's Story
Pastor Walter A. Printup, Jr. of the Tuscarora Nation, went home to glory on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. He served faithfully as pastor of the Tuscarora Baptist Church since 1995. Pastor Walt was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on July 7, 1943, a son of the late Chief Walter 'Allen' and Marjorie I. (Greene) Printup, Sr., a member of the Onondaga Eel Clan.
He attended the Tuscarora Indian School, Gaskill, LaSalle and graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School. After graduating from Erie County Technical Institute, he went to work as an estimator for Clark and Rapuano.
He married Delma R. Mt. Pleasant on June 7, 1969. While raising his family, he continued his career with Albert Elia Construction, now Sevenson Construction, until retiring to the pastorate. Pastor Walt believed in Jesus Christ when he was 10. He enjoyed hunting,playing softball, bowling, fishing and spearing with family and friends when he was young. In his later years he stayed active cutting wood and gardening, but really loved preaching, baptizing people and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Walt is survived by his two sons, Walter A. (Melissa) Printup, III and Jeremy Printup; three grandchildren, Mikayla, Seth and Aliyah; one brother, Marlen (Sue) Printup; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His family will be present on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, with a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Friends may also call on Friday from 10-11:00 AM at the Tuscarora Baptist Church, 2208 Mt. Hope Road, Sanborn, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, with his son Walter A. Printup, III officiating. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery,on the Tuscarora Nation.
