May Kaifas of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, died at home on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at age 94. She was born Mary Christie Davidson in Saltcoats, Scotland, the daughter of David and Mary Ellen (Tomalty) Davidson. In 1923, the family emigrated to Ellis Island on the SS Leviathan.
May graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1940. She was married to the late Chester Kaifas for 69 years, and they loved dancing together. In the Falls, May competed in the ladies classic bowling leagues, and at age 87, she rolled a 202 game. She was a member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church, Chattanooga, TN. May was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chet; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Lydia Davidson; and her sister, Betty Davidson.
May is survived by her children, Cathie Kaifas, Ellen (Paul) Smith, Jo Anne (Kenneth) Haag, Danny Kaifas (and Eileen Cordani), Linda Owen, Michael (Joy) Kaifas and Christine (David) Zuch; grandchildren, Stephen (Cindy) Jones, Renee (Randy) Laub, David Jones, Glenn (Jackie) Kaifas, Janelle Kaifas (and Fermin Concha), Stephen (Clare) Mang, Joanna (Adam Deich) Mang, Ben Kaifas, Maria Kaifas and Josh Zuch; great-grandchildren, Dougie and Annie Jones, Natalie and Jonathan Laub, Nathan Jones, Rogan, Ryann, Brooks and May Kaifas, Madison Kaifas-Steiner, Alannah and Fermin Concha, Grace and Charlotte Mang, Aaron Mangdeich and Jeremiah Zuch; brother-in-law, Stan Davidson; nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, Chattanooga, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Brainerd Presbyterian Church, 1624 Jenkins Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
