LaVonne (nee Hetrick) Means, 78, of the Town of Niagara, NY, passed from this life on Thursday, March 10, 2016 in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Born on December 1, 1937 in Punxsutawney, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie (Luther) Hetrick. On October 27, 1956, LaVonne married Larry L. "Mick" Means. He predeceased her on May 6, 2014.
Mrs. Means came to Niagara Falls, NY following her marriage. LaVonne was primarily a home maker while her children were young and later retired from Sears. She enjoyed shopping and loved horses and her cats. Above all, LaVonne adored visits and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Means is survived by three children, Dawn (Robert Buzzelli) Means, Gregory Means and Melissa "Missy" (Brad Miller). Means all of the Town of Niagara, NY; two grandchildren, Kevin (Angela Scarfone) Carpenter of Lewiston, NY and Kelly (Scott Schreckengost) Carpenter of the Town of Niagara, NY and seven great-grandchildren, Aleigha, Avery LaVonne, Austin, Abby Rose, Jennilee,, Julia and Easton Zayne. LaVonne is also survived by two sisters, Ada Jen (Dennis) Anderson and Mary Jane (Ronald) Evans both of Pennsylvania and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother, William Hetrick, Jr.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 15th from 4-5 p.m. in the Chapel of OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY (716-297-9007) where a funeral service will follow visitation at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the SPCA of Niagara, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
