John J.'s Story
John J. Painter, age 90 of the Town of Wheatfield, passed away May 22, 2017 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Brockway, PA, he was the son of the late Earl and Ellen (Hamilton) Painter.
John worked for Durez Plastics in North Tonawanda for over 35 years, retiring in 1983. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a life member of American Legion Post 1451. He was a member of the Adams Fire Company in the Town of Wheatfield for over 35 years and was an active member of Payne Avenue Christian Church in North Tonawanda. He enjoyed collecting and fixing old clocks. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his family.
Beloved husband of Betty (Appleton) Painter for 68 years; dear father of Jo Ann and Michael (Frances) Painter both of North Tonawanda and Jeffrey Painter of Tonawanda; dear grandfather of Jon (Tammy) Redmond, Amber Wood, Christopher (Michelle) Painter and Jason (Kristin) Painter of all of North Tonawanda, Joseph (Elizabeth) Painter of Rochester, Jenny (Justin) Flynn of the Town of Tonawanda and the late Gregory R. Painter. Also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; brother of Carolyn Munn of PA, Barbara Gear of Wellsville, NY, and the late Robert, James, Ken, Melvin, Jean, Gertrude and Betty.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc., 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda, on Thursday from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 AM. The Rev. Patricia Ludwig will officiate. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice or to Payne Avenue Christian Church.
