John Herstek, Jr., of the Town of Wheatfield, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the age of 99. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Sekula) Herstek, Sr. He resided in the Town of Wheatfield for the past sixty-six years. Mr. Herstek was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country from 1942 to 1946. He was a retired employee of Bell Aerospace Systems/Textron. He was a memebr of the Wheatfield Senior Citizens and a volunteer at Artpark and the Special Olympics. Mr. Herstek enjoyed gardening, spending time in Florida, was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Beloved husband of 74 years to Frances (nee Sioda) Herstek; dearest father of Frank (Beverly) Herstek and Mary Ann (Peter) Vissat; proud and loving grandfather of Jacob Herstek, Megan (Travis) Wolfinger, Elizabeth (Brandon) Johnson and Nicholas (Lauren) Vissat and four great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Walter Herstek.
The family will be present to greet relatives and friends on MONDAY, May 9th from 3-7 PM at the SABER FUNERAL HOME, 549 Oliver St., North Tonawanda (692-0271).
Family and friends are asked to gather at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church (Oliver St.) for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 AM. Flowers graciously declined. Memorial gifts may be made in John's honor to Niagara Hospice.
