Joan M.'s Story
Joan M. Comlish, 86, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at O.L.P Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston. Born in Niagara Falls, she was the daughter of the late Marial 'Chubby' and Sarah (Todaro) Linza; and step-daughter of the late Katherine Linza. Joan married her loving husband, Clayton 'Sonny' Comlish in 1952, and was later predeceased by him in 1972.
Joan served in the United States Navy from 1951 until her honorable discharge in 1953. She continued her military career in 1954 as a Contracting Officer at the U.S. 107th Military Base in Niagara Falls for over 35 years until her retirement in 1989. During this time, she also received her Bachelor's Degree. Mrs. Comlish was a member of the ISDA Cataract Lodge #240, American Legion and the AMVETS Association. She was also a longtime member of St. Leo's Church, where she taught Religious Education. In her leisure time, she enjoyed to travel and spend time with her family.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Linda (James) Krienen; siblings, Lawrence (Darlene) Lindsay and Marlene (Rick) Wynohradnyk; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William (Kay) Lindsay.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 20th from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent De Paul Parish, St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Parish.
