Irene E. (Zuba) Smith, a lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in Sisters of Charity Hospital. She was born in Niagara Falls on October 26, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (Rybicki) Zuba. She attended area schools.
From 1952 through 1954, she worked for Kimberly Clark. In 1971, Mrs. Smith started employment with Niagara Falls City Schools, working as head cook. She retired in 2005 after 27 years. She also worked at the Niagara Falls Convention Center as a banquet waitress, worked at the Moose Lodge and several local caterers. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish (St. Leo's site) for many years. She enjoyed life and loved being close to her family.
She is survived by children, Douglas L. (Judy) Smith of the Town of Niagara, Donald M. Smith of Niagara Falls, Judith A. (William) Gerlaugh of Sacaton, AZ; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five nieces.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Leon D. Smith, in 1974; her daughter, Linda M. Guthrie; and her son-in-law, Terrie Guthrie; brothers, Joseph W. (Carol) Zuba of Erie, PA, and Henry 'Hank' (Angie) Zuba of Niagara Falls, Daniel (Phyllis) Zuba of Youngstown.
Friends may call Saturday 1:00 - 4:00 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where Funeral Services will be held following the visitation at 4 PM. The interment will be private in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
Flowers graciously declined. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of one's choice.
The Smith family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the nurses in the ICU on the fourth floor in Hospice Unit in Sister's Hospital.
