Herman's Story

Herman W. Stevens, 84 of Olcott, NY, passed away on July 22, 2016. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Lester and Pearl Stevens. He was raised and educated in Niagara Falls and has resided in Olcott for the past 25 years. Herman served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1959. On January 31, 1958, he married Geraldine Grace (Vilardo) Stevens at Sacred Heart Church. She predeceased him on May 13, 1991.
Herman began his career as an automotive mechanic, and continued to use his talents throughout his life repairing countless family members cars. He worked many years at Occidental Chemical Company as a stationary engineer until his retirement. Herman enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He also loved refurbishing furniture and was a sports enthusiast. Above all, Herman enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was a member of the American Legion Fredrick F. Cadille Post and Stadium Grill Sportsman Club.
Mr. Stevens is survived by his children, Gloria (David DePadre) Dexter, Tina (Mike) Farrell, both of Niagara Falls, Michael L. (Kathleen Kwandraus) Stevens of Lockport, Diana (Dennis) Carey of Niagara Falls, and was predeceased by a son, Steven Stevens. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Sonny (Eileen) Stevens of Colorado, George (Aida) Stevens of California; his sisters and brother-in-law, Donna (Nick) Ligammari, Rosalie (late Salvatore) Vilardo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 26th at 10 AM. Interment with Military Honors in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
