Helen Wanda Skotnicki, 96, of Niagara Falls passed away on April 21, 2016 at her home under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice. She was born on February 11, 1920 in Detroit, MI to Casimir and Mary (Kozlowska) Mroczek. Wanda moved to Niagara Falls after high school and married Tad P. (Teddy) Skotnicki at Holy Trinity Church in 1947; he predeceased her in 1978.
Wanda worked as a waitress in her cousins’ establishments, The Variety Club, The Bakery Bar & Lounge and at the Niagara Geriatric Center. She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel church and served in the Mother’s Club and the bereavement committee. Wanda volunteered for years at the Catholic Worker Lampstand. She loved to read, knit, bowl, do jigsaw puzzles and spend time with her family.
Wanda is survived by her daughter Peggy of Niagara Falls; her sons, Andrew (Vivian) of the Bronx and Theodore “Ted” of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Tad Skotnicki of La Jolla, CA and Rachel (John) Kozera of Niagara Falls; her “joy” great-grandson Nikolas; her brother Walter) late Rosemary) Morris of San Francisco, CA; cousins, Steve (Ron Eschborn) Winkiewicz of Lewiston and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Irene (late Caradoc) Phillips and Virginia Matuszak.
There will be NO PRIOR VISITATION. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday May 7th at 12:30 PM at Holy Family Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 27th and Independence Avenue with Rev.
