Gerald R. 'Jerry' Gibas, 70, of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on August 21, 1946, he was the son of the late Frank and Josephine (Karamanski) Gibas, attending local schools.
Jerry entered the United States Army January 28, 1966, serving during Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Seargent on January 12, 1968. For his service to his country he received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and the Army Commendation Medal. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.
He is survived by his wife, Sophia V. (Trzeciak) Gibas; son, Jerry (Jennifer) Gibas; grandchildren, Dakota and Zachary; brothers, Paul (Diane) Gibas and Danny (Dreena) Gibas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jerry's Bella will miss him deeply.
There is NO PRIOR visitation. A Memorial Mass with military honors will be held 10:30 AM on Monday, August 21st at Divine Mercy Parish, 2437 Niagara Street, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Burial in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, will take place at the convenience of the family.
