George L.'s Story
George L. Johns, 84, of Wheatfield, NY, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Absolute Care at Gasport. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Audrey (Thompson) Morgan and stepson of the late Clifford Morgan.
George attended local schools and during the Korean War he served in the U.S. Navy from May 7, 1951 until his honorable discharge on April 28, 1955. During the Vietnam War, George reenlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1966. He worked as a machine operator at the Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls, NY. On March 3, 1990 he married Elizabeth A. (DeFelice) Johns at the former Winter Gardens in Niagara Falls. In his leisure time, George enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his children, Linda (Robert) Kelly of Kenmore, NY, Kathy Johns of Largo, FL, Frank (Charity) Tanfillo of Niagara Falls, NY, Dana (Stuart) Schnettler of Rochester, NY and Nicole (Robert) Schalk of Pendleton, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of Nicholas (Virginia) DeFelice of Baltimore, MD, Gary (Louise) DeFelice of Wheatfield, NY and Marie (Anthony) Amerose of Rochester, NY. George was predeceased by one brother, Clifford Morgan, Jr; one sister, Phyllis (late Edward) Hiller; and one brother-in-law Michael (Karen of the Town of Niagara) DeFelice.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin on Monday, July 25th at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Vincent DePaul at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Jeff Nowak officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. John's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive, Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221.
