Frank Roma, 82, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 5, 2016 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born in Toronto, Canada, he was the son of the late Gladys (O'Donnell) Harnett and James Roma.
Frank moved to Niagara Falls as a child with his family and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army, and served as a Military Police Officer at Sandia Base, N.M. until his honorable discharge on March 22, 1957. Following his discharge, Frank returned to Niagara Falls and married his loving wife, Dolores (Capolupo) Roma on June 19, 1957 at Mt. Carmel Church.
Frank later attended NCCC and Niagara University, graduating in 1969. He was employed for over 33 years at the New York Power Authority, until his retirement in 1993 as the Senior Community Relations Representative. During this time, he was influential with the formation of the Niagara County Tourism Department and served several years as chairman for their advisory board. He also was the head speaker at many civic organizations meetings in the county and a member of the Lion's Club.
Following his retirement, Frank continued his passion for community involvement and local politics. He served as President of the Niagara County SPCA, vice-chairman of the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, co-chairman of LEAP, and was a member of the Board of Director's for the Niagara Falls Public Library. Mr. Roma also served as chairman for the Niagara Falls Coalition for Casino Gambling and was instrumental in the development of the Seneca Niagara Casino.In his leisure time, Frank enjoyed the winter months in Florida with his wife and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Frank will be greatly remembered as a gentle, easy-going man who always had a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Frank is survived by his two sons, Mark J. Roma, Jeffrey (Jeff Perry) Roma; three grandchildren, Mark Jason (Becky) Roma, Chelsea M. (Alex Ramarez) Roma, Amanda Jean Roma; and six great-grandchildren, Brittny R., Mark C., Kierea, Tony, Lorenzo and Marina.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 9th from 4-7 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in Holy Family Parish at Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls with Military Honors to conclude. If desired, memorial offerings to a charity of one's choice.
