Edwin's Story

Edwin Veihdeffer, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Niagara Hospice House. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Richard Veihdeffer; the late Laura (Foukrod) Veihdeffer-Dixon, and the stepson of the late George Dixon.
Edwin was raised in Niagara Falls, where he attended local schools. He served in the United States Army during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1947. On October 2, 1948, he married his beloved wife, Ida (D'Orazio) Veihdeffer, in Niagara Falls. Ed was employed as a Firing Custodian for the N.F. Board of Education for over 20 years until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Veihdeffer was an active member of the American Legion Post #8643, the Odd Fellows Lodge, and was also a longtime, faithful member of the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. In his leisure time, Ed was an avid bowler and golfer. He also enjoyed playing Euchre and was a frequent lottery ticket scratcher. Above all, Ed loved life and he will be greatly remembered his sense of humor.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, Edwin is survived by his children, Gloria (Fred) Jordan, Sandra (John) Martino, Albert Veihdeffer, Douglas Veihdeffer, Stephen (Adele) Veihdeffer and Donna (Michael) Gruber; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Beverley (late Keith) Deal, Barbara Draper, Richard Veihdeffer and Bob Veihdeffer; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three half-brothers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 30th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30 AM. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, 14094.
