Dewey Butts, Jr., longtime area resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2017. He was 88. He was born in Newton, New Jersey, on March 27, 1929, a son of the late Dewey, Sr. and Estella (Wilgus) Butts.
He moved with his family to Niagara Falls in the early 1930's and attended local schools. Dewey served in the United States Merchant Marine and then the National Guard in the 1940's. He married Estelle Perdue on November 5, 1949 and they remained happily married for 64 years until her passing in 2013. Dewey began his career with New York Central Railroad which became Penn Central Railroad and finally Conrail from where he retired as a supervisor of track in 1985. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed repairing small engines.
He is survived by six children, Deborah Frain, Claudia (Jim) Scalzo, Sharon (Steven) Trusso, Dewey (Marlene) Butts, III, Richard (Lorie) Butts and Matthew (Amy) Butts. He is also survived by his two sisters, Dolores Baumgartner and Marie Nordlund; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation and burial will be at the convenience of the family in Acacia Park Cemetery in Pendleton.
