Carl G. Harris, a longtime resident of the Town of Niagara, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at home, while receiving care from Niagara Hospice. He was 78. He was born in Philipsburg, PA on September 21, 1937, the son of the late Carl E and Violet (Graham) Harris. He attended schools in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Harris proudly served his country in the US Army. He remained active with and served as Past Commander of the American Legion John J. Welch Post 381. He and his wife, Dorothy were also members of the Buff Social Club for many years, where he served as President of the club.
An avid outdoorsman, he, his wife and family enjoyed the many years camping at Emerald Acres in Franklinville. His other pastimes were hunting and fishing.
Mr. Harris enjoyed a 31 year retirement from Washington Mills, where he worked as a heavy machine operator. He was employed by Washington Mills for 27 ½ years.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Fisher) Harris; three children, Mary Ann (Rick) Harris of Latham, KS; Wanda (Pete) Janowsky of Raleigh, NC and Tina (Tom) Laufer of Chambersburg, PA; a brother, Ord (Sandy) Harris of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Kristine Bruno, Tracey Janowsky; Richard Reiss; Jessica Harris; BJ and Ron Daniels; great grandchildren, Austin and Mia Bruno; Zelda LeMay; Willie and Alexandria Newman; Aaron Daniels and Amyiah Harris, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Charles E. “Chuck” Harris and siblings, Merrill and Ann Beryl Harris.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where Funeral services will be held at 9 PM. The interment will be private in Riverdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice.
