Angelo L.'s Story
Angelo L. Tolfa, age 87, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Schoellkopf Health Center under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on August 6, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY. He was the son of the late Anthony and Lena (Manuel) Tolfa.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from October 9, 1947 until his honorable discharge on October 8, 1951. He was proud of his time as a Marine and always told stories of when he was in. He married his wife, Clara D Navarro, in her hometown of Springfield, Ohio on July 15, 1950. They spent their first year of marriage at his last duty station which was Quantico MCAS Virginia. They moved back to Niagara Falls, NY, after his discharge from the Marine Corps. Angelo and his wife were happily married for over 66 years and were always together.
Angelo was a longtime member of St John de LaSalle RC Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #247 and former member of the Marine Corps League. He was employed by several local hospitals in their Purchasing Departments, most recently retiring from Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in November of 1992 with over 19 years of service.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Anthony (Frances) of San Diego, CA, William (fiance'e Evelyn Rogers) of Lewiston, and Angelo II (Carla) of DeLand FL; and a daughter, Diane (Nelson) Cirrito of the Town of Niagara; 12 grandchildren, Angelo III, Nicholas, Anthony II and Rachel Tolfa; Annmarie Melloni; Michelle Stupski; Steve and Jennifer Sander; Chris and Michael Cirrito; Alix and Christopher Thomas; and 19 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Angelo was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony, Jr., Joseph and Dominick; and a grandson, William.
The family will be present on Sunday, April 9th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where prayers will be offered on Monday at 9:15 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John de LaSalle RC Church at 10:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Niagara Hospice or American Kidney Fund.
