Alice Ligon Himes, 93, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Our Lady of Peace where she had resided since March 2014. Born in Burnsville, MS, on April 27, 1922, Alice was a daughter of Veto Barton Ligon and Nancy Suzanna (Gober) Ligon.
Alice attended Burnsville High School, studied hairdressing at Ligon’s Beauty School in Corinth, MS, and worked in the mail order division of Sears Roebuck & Co. in Memphis, TN. She moved to Niagara Falls, NY, in 1942, and worked at the Carborundum Co. where she met Paul A. Himes. They were married in 1945, in Punxsutawney, PA, and lived in Niagara Falls until they moved to Model City, NY, in 1948. Alice was employed as a school bus driver with the Ransomville Bus Lines for 26 years, retiring in 1980. In 1988, Alice and Paul moved to Booneville, MS, where they were living when Paul died in 1996. In 2010, she moved to Lewiston, NY, where she lived with a daughter and son-in-law until she moved to assisted living in 2012.
Alice and Paul were long-time members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. They joined the Booneville Presbyterian Church and Alice was a member until her return to Lewiston.
Alice is survived by son, Peter (Jocelyn) Himes of Clarksville, TN; daughters Brenda Himes (Virgil, deceased) Fryburger of Columbus, OH, and Polly (Otto) Redanz of Lewiston, NY; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Cloutier of Columbus, OH, and Laurie Redanz of Lewiston, NY; two great-grandsons Madden and Callen Cloutier of Columbus, OH, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers, two sisters, including Mattie Ruth (Leo) Fermoile of Niagara Falls, NY, and grandson, Paul Redanz of Lewiston, NY.
Visitation will be Friday, April 15th from 4 – 7 p.m., with service to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY.
