Yvette L.'s Story
Yvette L. (nee Strong) Briand, affectionately known to her family as 'Snookie,' went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2017. Born April 4, 1922 in Welland, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Harold B. and Marie G. (Gerardi) Strong.
Yvette moved to Niagara Falls, NY as a child with her family. She worked as a proof reader at Moore Business Forms and at Kimberly Clark Corporation, both in Niagara Falls, prior to her marriage.
She married Marcel Briand at Sacred Heart Church in June 1949. Together, with her husband, they ran a vineyard in Ransomville, NY, while raising their children. During her marriage, the couple traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Retiring in 1980, they moved to Tampa, FL. Mr. Briand predeceased her in 1993, at which time Yvette moved back to Lewiston.
She was an active member of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston as well as a volunteer at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital Red Cross for 17 years. Yvette enjoyed bowling, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family. In 2016, she moved her residence to Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Facility in Lewiston.
Yvette is survived by her daughter, Yvette (companion Ed Halsen) Lowery of Tennessee; her son, Laurence (Judy) Briand of Youngstown; and was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanine (Rudy) Stringer. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren and Michelle Briand of Youngstown, Michael (Christine) Borges, Christopher (Sebelle) Borges; great-grandsons, Matthew, Tyler and Weston Borges all of Florida; a brother, Joseph (Barbara) Sykes of Utah; and several nieces, nephews and a host of family in France, Belgium and England. Yvette was also predeceased by her sisters and brother, Marie (late Stanley) Yachwan, Haroldine 'Deanie' (late George) Evandole, Jean (Frank) Guagliano and Gustave (Lorraine) Strong.
A memorial service and entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family on a later date.
