Wayne G. Cooper Wayne G. Cooper, 93, of North Tonawanda, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, after a lengthy illness. He was born March 23, 1925, in Niagara Falls, NY. His parents were the late Carl and Margaret Cooper.
He was a graduate of LaSalle High School, United States Naval Training School at Iowa State College, and served in the U.S. Navy, Pacific Campaign, during WWII.
After returning, Wayne joined the family business, serving as President of Cooper Neon Sign Company, Inc. in Niagara Falls, NY, retiring in 1987. He was a charter member of the Town of Niagara Lions Club, a member of the Gideons International for 67 years and a member of Shalom Baptist Church in North Tonawanda.
Wayne was one of six children raised working the family business Cooper Signs Anything established in 1922 by his parents in Niagara Falls, NY. His parents provided signs to Wendt's dairy in trade for milk during the depression. After WWII he built a building for Cooper Sign Co. on Military Road. A few of his iconic signs include the pink elephant on Pine Avenue, the original Page's signs and the Starlight Drive-In. He held patents on a photographic vacuum bag used by Eastman Kodak and Xerox.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior in 1948 continuing to serve his Lord in many capacities over the years. He loved to share the word of God by passing out Gideon Bibles to everyone that he met.
Wayne and his late wife, Arlene, of 50 years are survived by three daughters, Barbara A. (Philip) Klumpp, Mary Jane (Terry) Licht of North Tonawanda, Anne (Tom) Martin of Tonawanda; and a son, John A. (Jennifer) Cooper, Sr. of Wheatfield; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Oren, Harold and Gerry Cooper; and his sisters, the late Lillian Sabin and the late Kathleen Neubauer.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home, Inc., 1241 Oliver St., at Ward Road in North Tonawanda, on Friday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and at Niagara Community Church, 10500 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls, NY, Saturday 10-11 AM just prior to the funeral service at 11:00AM. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in the Town of Pendleton.
