Walter S. Bogal Walter S. Bogal, 91 years old, passed away peacefully at his home after a short illness, surrounded by his family, while under the care of Niagara Hospice on Monday, August 6, 2018.
Mr. Bogal was born on August 14, 1926, the son of the late John and Karolina (Perkarz) Bogal. He attended Holy Trinity Parochial School and Trott Vocational High School. He served with the United States Army from December 6, 1945 until his honorable discharge on March 28, 1947, with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On September 30, 1950, he was married to the former Helen Ciszek. Mr. Bogal worked as a machinist for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of St Stanislaus Kostka Church where he served as an usher. He was a Life Member of the American Legion Portage Post #1465 where he served in many capacities including Past Commander, Chaplain, Club Steward and Honor Guard. He was a longtime blood donor to the American Red Cross and was a model airplane enthusiast. Mr. Bogal was a talented handyman who could fix anything in his own home.
Mr. Bogal is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen (Ciszek) Bogal; his daughter, Carolyn "Kiki" Bogal of Medfield, MA and his sons, Michael Bogal of Niagara Falls and Peter (Ruth Smouse) Bogal of Grand Island. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Peter "PJ", Stefanie, Rebecca and William,
and his great-grandson, Jaymin.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM at the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 356 Portage Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, corner of Niagara and 24th Streets, with Rev. Jacek P. Mazur officiating. Interment with Military Honors in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice, Inc.
