Theresa 'Terri''s Story
Theresa 'Terri' M. Hickey, 68, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Friday, July 22, 2016. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Sylvia (Sorta) Hickey.
Theresa was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and graduated from Madonna High School in 1965. She was employed for over 31 years with the Niagara Falls City School District, where she was a true asset to the Focus on Families program for over 20 years as a coordinator. Terri had a kind, generous heart and always put others first. She managed numerous programs to help those in need get access to food, clothing and shelter. She also ran a Christmas toy drive for many years that provided toys to hundreds of children throughout the community.
In her leisure time, Terri enjoyed camping at Letchworth State Park with her family, attending craft shows and area festivals. She enjoyed playing several card games, especially cribbage, kings and threes, and was captain of an elite competitive euchre team. Terri was an avid reader, enjoyed listening to music and watching cooking shows. She also loved shopping on Amazon and keeping in touch with friends and family on Facebook.
Terri was a passionate lover of animals, especially of her beloved cat, Abby. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her "little sunshine," her granddaughter, Fiona, and was happily awaiting the arrival of her second granddaughter.
Ms. Hickey is survived by her beloved sons, Neil (Jessica) Hickey and Brian (Cayla) Hickey; one granddaughter, Fiona Hickey; one sister, Nancy (Raymond) Bouvy; her sister-in-law, Laura Hickey; nieces, Rachael (Matthew) Grabek and Kathleen (Boyd) Hickey; along with her great-nieces, Molly Pakosigan, Gabrielle Grabek and Natalie Grabek; her uncle, James Sorta, Sr.; and special friends, Margaret Mozell and Mary Hosey. She is also survived by many cousins. Terri was predeceased by her loving brother, Donald Michael Hickey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28th from 2 - 4 P.M. & 7 - 9 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will follow on Friday at 11:00 A.M.
