Shirley's Story

Text size

On Friday, March 2nd our beloved mother and "Nana," Shirley M. Godzisz, passed away peacefully at her home to be with her loving husband of 56 years, Henry "Hank" Godzisz. Born in Niagara Falls on November 16, 1934 to John Zelonis and Mary (Zygmont) Zelonis, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
Shirley cared deeply for others and would help anyone in need, especially children. She loved to care for her grandchildren and was also a trusted caretaker for several elderly relatives. She always spoke her mind and had an intuitive ability to read a person or situation. She could pick a winning slot machine and always won if you gave her a lottery ticket. Never shy, she passed on to her daughters and grandchildren the importance of expressing your opinion and standing up for what you believe in. She had a one of a kind spirit, her family will miss her quick smile and her many quirks.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda McNamara and Sharon Wisniewski; two grandchildren, Shaniel (Trevor Brown) Wisniewski and Patrick McClelland; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her loving husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Jacqueline Carbin and Constance Wilkowski.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, on Tuesday from 4-6 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
