Sherwood "Woody"'s Story
Born in North Tonawanda, NY, he was the son of Martin and Esther (Werth) Herman. Woody married Janet DeVantier on September 2, 1961 and was happily married for 54 years. Woody was a member of St. Johnsburg Volunteer Fire Company for over 50 years and on the board of directors for 12 years. He was a life member of Western New York Water Works Association, past president of the former Niagara County Water Works Association, was employed 46 years for the Wheatfield Water Division, serving eight years as the superintendent, and was a Plumbing Board member. Woody was an active life long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Wheatfield, where he served six years as a trustee and ushered weekly. He enjoyed many family reunions and get togethers, working in his garden and was well known locally for his sweet tasting strawberries. Woody is survived by his wife, mother, three children, Darlene Herman of North Tonawanda, Jeffrey (Karen) Herman and Debra Herman both of Wheatfield; five grandchildren, David, Diana, Jennifer, James and Emily; sister, Sharon (Lee) Muir; and brothers, Wayne (Lynda) Herman and Wesley (Barbara) Herman. Visitation will be at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield, on Saturday from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Randy Rozelle, on MONDAY at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Falls Blvd. and Ward Road. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church, or American Heart Association.
