Shahen's Story

Text size

Shahen Bedrosian passed away peacefully on April 19, 2017. Shy as he was called by family and friends, was predeceased by his sister, Queenie Bedrosian in 2004.
After his graduation from Niagara Falls High School, Shy entered into service for the United States. In 1945, he shipped out on the USAHS Wisteria. He transferred to the Army reserves in 1952 and was honorably discharged on October 8, 1956. While in the service, Shy trained as baker and later as an accountant. He was a chaplain in the reserves and had achieved the rank of captain before his retirement. Using the GI Bill, Shy began attending Niagara University at night while working as a civilian accountant for the Military during the day. He completed his education with a Masters in Business Administration.
As a teenager, Shy entered the boxcar races sponsored by the Niagara Falls Boys Club and maintained his association with them throughout his life. Shy, along with his father, was active in the establishment of St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church in Niagara Falls. Throughout his life he was an active member and volunteered as a member of the Parish Council, advisor and the organization of the local chapter of the Armenian Church Youth Organization (ACYOA).
Shy truly believed in giving to his community. He was a frequent blood donor and was an honored member of the Gallon Club.
Per Shys wishes, his Goddaughter has arranged a private burial with Military Honors. A memorial service is planned for later this year. Anyone who would like to express their grief in lieu of flowers, is welcome to make a donation in his memory to St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church, 300 Ninth Street Niagara Falls, NY 14303. Arrangements by M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for guest register.
