Ruth Evelyn Kumm went to walk more closely with her Lord on December 27, 2017. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on March 31, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of Donald and Irene (Umholtz) Colquhoun.
Ruth will always be remembered for her loving compassion, generosity and her warm and caring HUGS, which we will always feel. Ruth attended 'every' local school, graduating from NFHS.
From 1956 to 1986, Ruth and her husband Elmer owned and operated Elmer's Dairy Queen/Brazier. Ruth's customer service led to great success and many awards. "Customers came first" and many remember Ruth's smiles despite hard work and long hours. Ruth, dedicated to her work, made treats from buster bars to baked goods into her retirement. She's also remembered for hats, scarves and mittens made for children and elderly across Niagara County. Her magnificent afghans were crocheted as gifts, and even featured on the "WNED Great TV Auction".
Ruth's inspiration came from daily reading of the Holy Bible. As a member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 45 years, she served in the Choir, the LWML, Social Ministry, Altar Guild, and a beloved Sunday School teacher. Ruth's was honored by the New York State Assembly in 2016 as a "Woman of Distinction."
