Ruth I.'s Story

Ruth I. Griffin passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. She died as a result of a fall while on her way to a family gathering in memory of the passing of her husband, two years before.
The youngest of five children, Ruth was born in Niagara Falls on October 10, 1930, to John and Mary (Sweet) Kavanaugh. She attended local schools, graduated from Niagara Falls High School, and met her beloved 'Griff' at the old Dexter's Roller Rink. They were married at Sacred Heart Church on September 16, 1950 and enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing on February 15, 2015. Ruth was a full-time homemaker who kept a beautiful home and most enjoyed cooking special dinners and entertaining her family and friends.
She was a devoted mother to her children, Kathy (Al) Kifer, Susan (late Jim) Zacher, Tom (Florence) Griffin and Jane (John) Biasucci; proud grandmother to James (Tricia) Zacher, Brian Zacher and Katie (Paul) Emmick, all of Niagara Falls; Johnny (Amy) Biasucci of Lockport, Kelly (Mike) Hartley of Texas, Cheri (Jeff) Campton of Arizona and delighted great-grandmother to Carson and Miles Zacher, Amelia and Nicholas Biasucci, Sophia Emmick, Gavin and Ryann Hartley and Drake and Emma Campton. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Rita (late Larry) Hagerman; and her brother-in-law, Stanley (late sister Margaret) Paviak; as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her childhood best friend of 80 years, Betty LaBelle. Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by brothers, Jack (late Edna) and Paul (late Peggy) Kavanaugh; and sister, Catherine (late Edgar) Battson.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls. Interment will be in Acadia Park Cemetery at the family's convenience.
Ruth was an Assisted Living resident at Elderwood at Tonawanda, where she and her husband received the best of care and were loved by a devoted staff and their fellow residents. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's memory would be deeply appreciated if sent to Elderwood at Tonawanda, 111 Ensminger Road, Tonawanda, NY 14150.
