Roger J. Weld, 71, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Mount. St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Howard and Geraldine (Laraba) Weld.
Roger married his loving wife, Marlene E. (Calandrelli) Weld, on August 24, 1973 at St. Michael's Church in Niagara Falls. He served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War from 1965 until his honorable discharge on June 30, 1967, after an injury. In recognition for his outstanding service to our country, he received the Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Marksman Badge.
Roger was employed as a painter for the New York State Department of Transportation for many years until his retirement in 2001.
Buck, as he was known to his friends and family, was a longtime member of the John J. Welch American Legion Post #381, Marine Corps League, Defazio's Sportsman Club and the Embassy Club. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Buffalo Bills, and Buffalo Sabres and enjoyed watching them on TV with his best friend, Thomas Carroll. Roger especially enjoyed traveling with his wife and members of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Above all, Roger was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren, and cherished the time spent with them.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Weld is survived by his three children, Bryan (Kelly) Weld, Brenda (Joseph) Fabiano and Bradley (Ellen) Weld; six grandchildren, Christi, John, Joe, Anthony, Trinity and Ariana; two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Conor; three siblings, Carolyn (Robert) Seedfelt, Donna (Duane) Frost, and Thomas (Evelyn) Weld; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and his best friend, Thomas Carroll.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10th from 12 - 5 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where a prayer service and Military Honors will follow at 5 PM.
