Robert J.'s Story
Robert J. Michalek, 81, of Niagara Falls on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Northgate Health Care Facility after a lengthly illness under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on February 6, 1936 to Mary (nee Dlugosz) and John Michalek of Niagara Falls, NY.
Robert attended Niagara Falls Schools and Trott Vocational Center. In his early years, he traveled to California and Arizona on the quest for gold. He then joined the Army where he served for two terms. Robert truly enjoyed his time in the military. He was stationed in Europe and traveled on the weekends with his army buddies. Upon discharge, he returned to Niagara Falls and cared for his parents.
Robert was employed for over 30 years with Carbon-Graphite (formerly Airco) and retired on October 1, 1998 at the age of 62. Throughout his life he enjoyed his friends and spent his spare time Hunting, Shooting, Fishing, Boating, Diving and Treasure Hunting with them. He was a supporter of the NRA and a past member of the Niagara County Sportsman Club where he was considered an avid marksman.
In the past 29 years, Robert was in a relationship with the "love of his life," Kathleen Walder of Wheatfield. Together they spent much enjoyable time traveling, shopping, visiting friends and especially camping at Long Beach, Canada. He will always be remembered as a good friend, great story teller and an extremely generous person. Robert is also survived by several cousins and friends.
Friends will be received by the family on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 4-8 PM at Brunner Funeral Home (692-3841), 156 Robinson St., North Tonawanda. Graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, June 24 at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 11:00.
It is requested that memorials be made to the Niagara Hospice Activity Fund at Northgate Health Care Facility, 7264 Nash Road, North Tonawanda, NY 14120 or the charity of your choice.
