Reuben Byrd, Jr., 72 years old of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Tuesday, July 25th. Born on November 14, 1944 in Andalusia, Alabama, he was the son of the late Reuben, Sr. and Elgie (Parker) Byrd.
Reuben graduated from Trott Vocational High School and attended NCCC where he earned an associate's degree in liberal arts. Additionally, he went to ECC and University of Buffalo.
Reuben served in the United States Army in combat in Vietnam and remained in the Reserves until his retirement.
He was employed as an electrician at Olin Corporation until his retirement. Also, Reuben worked as a community service officer and an Auxiliary Police Officer with the City of Niagara Falls.
Reuben loved spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included auto racing and working on cars.
Surviving is his wife, Inez; two sons, Rudolph V. Byrd and Reuben Byrd, III; two sisters, Rosa Boyer and Catherine O. Sitarski; three brothers, Charles Byrd, Jimmy Byrd and David Byrd; closest friend, brother and cousin to the very end, Frank Starks; special friends, Claude 'Fatman' Cook and Clary 'Bean' Wilson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by one sister, Ethel Palmer; and one daughter, Rosemary.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 2nd from 10:30-11:00 AM at the Potter's House Christian Community Church, 723 Seventh Street, Niagara Falls, NY. Service will follow promptly at 11:00 AM.
