Patricia E. Truesdale

Events

Patricia (Ellsworth) Truesdale LMSW, MS Ed., of Lewiston, NY, lost her seven year battle with ovarian cancer after a brief illness on July 29, 2019. She passed peacefully at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY, surrounded by those she loved most dearly. Born October 5, 1952 in Niagara Falls, NY, the second daughter of Dorothy (Evans) and the late Dale "Harry" Ellsworth.
She graduated from Lewiston-Porter in 1970; continued on at NCCC; received a BSW from Buff State; an MSW from UB in 2002; an MS Ed. in Play Therapy from Ole Miss in 2016; she had nearly completed her PhD at Fielding Graduate University at the time of her death.
Her work career was varied, putting ever expanding skills to use with the most vulnerable. She worked at Opportunities Unlimited and Empower early in her career. She moved on to use her BSW and LMSW at Global Village Therapeutic Foster Care; Jewish Family Services; Heads Up TBI support group; and Madonna House among others.
She began her focus on early interventions for children at CAO of Erie County Head Start. To finish, she made a genuine impact with her work family at Main Pediatrics in Buffalo, NY. Patricia believed her example, intervention, and advocacy would bring ripple effects felt through families, a practice, and throughout Western NY. Patricia's starfish are a beautiful legacy, she 'made a difference to that one.'
Patricia service to others began early in life as Girl Scout, earning her gold award. She became a lactation consultant and volunteered at the Baby Café program in Buffalo. She contributed in professional groups including ECCS-CoIIN and PSP learning sessions. She mentored social work students from UB. Her door was always open to those in need. Patricia was able to weave together the knowledge, experience, and compassion she had gathered along her journey into an amazing tapestry of service. She encouraged everyone to learn more as understanding deepened. There is no doubt, those whose lives she touched will carry on her work in big and small ways.
Patricia was a lifelong Episcopalian, member of St. John's Youngstown and later St. Paul's Lewiston. She previously served on the ECS Board of Western NY. She delighted in working with children and youth throughout her life; most notably on a New Orleans, LA Youth Mission Trip in 2009 and as a happening "Mom." She recognized God at work in all traditions and valued cross cultural experiences of God.
Family was a genuine source of joy in her life. Daughters, Terra Cutlip (Lee Krawczyk), Samantha Cutlip (Christopher Olivera); and granddaughters, Willow, Angelina, Trinity, Megan and Karen were the light of her life and will miss her presence sorely. She was predeceased by her father, Dale Ellsworth. Her sister, Kathleen Sullivan; and niece, Jennifer (Wagoner) Magner also predeceased her due to ovarian cancer. She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Ellsworth; brother, David Ellsworth, sister, Jamie Mahala Pacheco; as well as other family here and around the country.
A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held Saturday August 31, 2019 at 3 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge Street, Lewiston, NY. Please join in remembering and celebrating the good works and memories Patricia brought to our lives.
