Mary's Story

Mary M. (Sixberry) Matiash, a longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2018 in Niagara Hospice House. She was 82. She was born in Black River, NY on March 30, 1935, the daughter of the late Henry Sixberry and Laura (Ferguson) Sixberry Mastro.
Mrs. Matiash worked as a clerk for various area businesses including Twin Fair, Mr. Donut and Valu Home Center. She also worked for the Salvation Army in North Tonawanda serving lunch to seniors and was also involved with the church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family as well as sharing stories with family & friends.
She is survived by four children, Bonita (Douglas) Wintersteen; Roger Matiash; Timothy Matiash and Keith (Mary) Matiash; a brother, Ronald Sixberry; her sister in law, Genevieve Jakubeck; Eight grandchildren, Laurie (Joshua) Gregory, Brian Wintersteen, Daniel Wintersteen, Alexander Matiash, Cara Matiash, Brittany (Daniel) OSullivan, Nicholas (Christina) Matiash and Jeffrey Matiash. One great grandchild, Daniel OSullivan Jr.; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nicholas Matiash in July 2001; her son, Joseph Matiash; her granddaughter, Laura Matiash and her sister, Ruth Woods.
Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, where Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 AM. The interment will be private in Acacia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory made be made to Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
