Margaret's Story

Margaret (Johnston) Juergens Klomp, lifetime area resident, passed into the Lord's loving care on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at her home. She was 95. Margaret was born in Youngstown, New York on October 8, 1921, the daughter of the late Porter and Julia Johnston. Margaret attended grade school and high school in Youngstown and graduated from Youngstown High School. She attended State University at Brockport, graduating in 1942 with a BE in Elementary Education. Later she took many courses SUNY Buffalo relating to the teaching of reading.
The first two years after college, Margaret taught at Gasport High School (now Royalton Heartland Central School District). Following that she was hired by the Niagara Falls Board of Education, teaching at the former Cayuga Drive School and 79th Street School for 39 years. Margaret cherished the time teaching young children, to read. After her retirement in 1984 she enjoyed traveling to several different countries.
Margaret was predeceased by husbands' Karl A. Juengens whom she married in 1947. He died in 1974. Later, she married Henry Klomp who died in 1981.
A longtime member of Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church, Margaret was Clerk of Session for 13 years and was also very active in the community. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, Niagara Falls Chapter at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for 25 years, also serving on its Board of Directors; she was an active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority; the LaSalle Literary Club; the Niagara Women's Club; College Club of Niagara Falls; LaSalle Pride; the LaSalle Yacht Club Woman's Power Squadron, teaching safe boating courses for young children and the Castellani Museum of Art.
Margaret is survived by her beloved daughter, Christine Juergens of Niagara Falls; her siblings, Frances Hann (late Albert) of Niagara Falls; Phyllis Eisenman (late Floyd) of Niagara Falls; Ruth Tomaski (late Tom) of Springfield, VA; her sister in law, Dora Johnston of Ransomville; Peter (Porter) Johnston (Ann) of Youngstown; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Walter Johnston, John Johnston; William Johnston; Nora Lee Holling and Mary Jane Kile.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue on Tuesday, November 1 from 4-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Bacon Memorial Church, 166 59th Street at 10 A.M. followed by burial in North Ridge Cemetery in Cambria. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church.
