Mrs. Lucinda Benson Dobbs, 91, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Thursday, July 20, 2017 under the gracious care of Schoellkopf Nursing Home. She was born on June 14, 1926 to Ernest, Sr. and Lucinda Benson in Atlanta, GA.
Mrs. Dobbs attended Young Street Elementary School & David T. Howard High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended St. Phillips A.M.E. Church where she loved to sing in the choir. She was joined in marriage to James Henry Dobbs Sr. in 1943. They migrated to Niagara Falls, NY, and she has resided here ever since. To this union were born eight children.
Lucinda was employed by The Ramada Inn for approximately ten years, and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for approximately 25 years. In 1960 she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and received the gift of the Holy Ghost at Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church where the Late Bishop William Crossley was the pastor. There she was a faithful member and served as a missionary, sunday school teacher, pastor's aide member, and musician. She was a charter member of the Christ Redemption Tabernacle Church for the past 17 years where her son, Suffragan Bishop Kevin Dobbs, is the founder and Pastor. She served faithfully at C.R.T where she was a member of the Benevolent Matriarchs, Women of Destiny, Shepherd's Committee, Christian Education Department, and an avid supporter and advisor of the Music Ministry. Mother Lucinda has been walking with the Lord for 56 years. She was affectionately known as Mother Dobbs.
Mother Dobbs cherished the moments that she spent with her family. There was nothing that she loved more than her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She loved cooking, reading, studying, teaching the word of God, singing the songs of Zion, playing the piano, crocheting, quilting, and being in the house of the Lord. She was devoted to being a nurturing and kind woman who was not only a mother to her own children, but also the children in her neighborhood and community. She was a long-time resident of the Niagara Falls Housing Authority in Jordan Gardens.
Mrs. Dobbs is survived by three sons, Suffragan Bishop Kevin (Norschenia) Dobbs, Byron Dobbs, Carl Dobbs, all of Niagara Falls; four daughters, Sandra (Willie) Foster, and Celia Dobbs, both of Buffalo, NY, Linda (Dana) Douglass, and Jeanine Dobbs, both of Niagara Falls, NY. Her memory will forever be cherished by her 14 loving grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren whom she prayed for continually. Her memories will be cherished by her sisters Evelyn Barry of Atlanta, GA, and Marion Burnett of Detroit, MI. She will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the Christ Redemption Tabernacle Church family and friends.
