Leona M. Travis, 96, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 28th, 2018 at Mount. St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Tweed, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Mary Anne (Prue) LaFreniere.
Leona moved to Niagara Falls with her family and attended Holy Rosary School. On October 2, 1937 she married her beloved husband, Philip J. Travis, Sr. at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Travis later predeceased her 1986. Leona began working at Nabisco Shredded Wheat Company and the International Paper Mill. She later owned and operated the Gill Creek Inn alongside her husband and was also self-employed as a housekeeper.
In Leona's younger years she enjoyed dancing and crocheting booties for orphans at Fr. Baker Manor. Above all, Leona was a very generous and loving lady who especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Mrs. Travis is survived by her children, Donna (Steve) Listek, Debbie Howes, Philip J. Travis, Jr. (Laurie), Dan (Lori) Travis and was predeceased by one son, Domnick (Hendra) Travis and one grandson, Michael Listek. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; three siblings, Pearl (late Bruno) Sweica, Ralph (Alice) LaFreniere and Genie (late Lou) Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her six siblings, Dorothy (late Fred) Hansen, Raymond LaFreniere, Leonard LaFreniere, Clayton LaFreniere, Joe (Betty) LaFreniere and Charles LaFreniere.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Robert L. Bull, Jr. and the staff of O.L.P Nursing Care Residence (2nd Floor East) for the compassion and care given to Leona.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 3rd from 11 - 2 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, where funeral services will be celebrated at 2 PM. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
