Katie M.'s Story
Katie M. Payne went home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2017 at Northgate nursing home.
Katie was born in Greenville, Alabama, on March 26, 1925 to the late Felix and Nora
(Bedgood) Crayton. She married the late Willie H. Payne in 1945.
They moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1950. To this union they had four children, Willie Payne, Mae Payne, Arthur Payne (deceased), and Dorothy (James) McLymore, all of Niagara Falls.
Katie loved singing since her adolescent years. She joined Trinity Baptist Church in 1956 where she sang in the trinity gospel choir and was also with the commanders. She was a lifetime member of Sunshine Temple #187 IBPOE and Eastern Star. She worked as a teacher's math aide in numerous schools for the city of NF for many years. Katie had a big loving heart for everyone and always had a big beautiful smile that would light up the whole room.
Katie leaves to cherish her memory her children, Willie, Mae, and Dot; one sister, Lillie Stalling- McClain; sister-in-law, Boncile Payne; five grandchildren, Danky, Yvonne, Sam, Tyree, and Carla Bones-Egemonye, whom she raised as her very own; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; friends; along with two adopted sons, Charles Packer and Marlin Haynes. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Bessie Hayden; and brother, Felix Craytron; husband; one son; and three grandchildren.
Wake services will be Friday, February 24, 2017 at 5-7 PM and funeral services will be on Saturday at 10 AM. Both will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 1366 South Ave., Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
