Joseph A. Saia

1924 - 2018

Joseph A. Saia, 94, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Mt. St. Marys Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Angelo and Jessie (Ferrara) Saia.
Joseph graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School and attended metallurgical school in Chicago. He served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1945. On April 22, 1951, he married his beloved wife, Irene (Bartolomei) Saia at St. Joseph Church. Joseph was employed at Union Carbide as a Metallurgist for over 34 years prior to his retirement.
Mr. Saia was a passionate golfer and longtime member of Niagara Frontier Golf Club. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, as well as playing badminton in his younger years. Joseph also loved music and playing the organ.
In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his daughter Susan Saia and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Lucy (Saia) Taibi and his infant sister Margie Saia.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 14th from 4 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Committal prayers and Military Honors will be held on Saturday at 11 A.M. in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 500 Riverdale Avenue, Lewiston, NY. Memorial offerings may be made to a charity of ones choice. I just read this and feel so bad. I was one of the Eucharist ministers from St. Peter’s who took communion to him at his home. I would have definitely gone to his wake but I just found out today. Mr. Saia was such a nice man. I will miss him.

My sincere condolences. I worked with Joe at Union Carbide and enjoyed our time there together with the metallurgists in the research and development dept.
