Joseph R. Blantern, age 74, passed away on May 10, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. He was born on May 19, 1944 in Buffalo, NY. He was the son of the late George R. and Angeline M. (Gulino) Blantern.
He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1962, and State University of New York with a Bachelor's degree in 1966. He was an Army veteran serving from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1972.
Joseph was an Erie County Welfare Examiner, retiring in November of 2000. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Men's Group, The Legion of Mary, he faithfully on every Friday morning, prayed at Planned Parenthood for all the unborn babies. He enjoyed collecting guitars, was a talented artist, enjoyed playing and listening to music, and tending to his extensive collection of books in his home library.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara A. (Welker) Blantern; his siblings, Janet (John) Ketterer, Ann (late Gary) Massingale and George (Debbie) Blantern; a cherished great-nephew and godson, Gered Welker; in addition to two nieces, nine nephews, four great-nieces, a great-nephew. He was a devoted brother-in law of Gerald (Kathy) Welker, Rita (late Thomas) Welker, special cousin of Linda (Robert) Noble and Sam (Karin) Gulino. Also survived by many other cousins and was predeceased by two great-nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 17 from 4-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Rd. , Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Joseph's Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, St. Leo Worship Site, 2748 Military Rd., Niagara Falls, NY, at 11:00 AM. Please assemble at church. Entombment with Military Honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY.
