Joseph A. DeMonte, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on September 19, 2017 at Northgate Health Care Facility. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Enrico and Rose (Yocco) DeMonte.
Joseph graduated from Niagara Falls High School and enlisted into the United States Navy in 1948. He served four years of active duty, two years as a reservist and 22 years as a Naval Construction Battalion 'Seabee,' until his honorable discharge in 1976 as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He also earned his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Political Science from the University at Buffalo.
On March 31, 1951, he married his loving wife, Theresa 'Terry' DeMonte, at St. Joseph's Church and spent 60 memorable years together until her passing in 2011. Joseph was employed as the senior maintenance foreman for the Niagara Falls Housing Authority for many years prior to his retirement in 1996.
Mr. DeMonte leaves behind a legacy of hard work and humble leadership. He was extremely generous and gracious to the homeless and those in need. He also owned and managed a number of rental properties throughout the area in which he took great pride in the maintenance and upkeep.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Gail (Jerry) DelZoppo; and was predeceased by his two sons, Robert and Thomas DeMonte. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ben (Stacy) DelZoppo, Tessa DelZoppo and Noelle DelZoppo; great-grandchildren, Breeana Delzoppo, Gian and Evan Villani and Ryan and Remi Marie Bauer; one sister, Yolanda DeMonte; and was predeceased by one brother, Willie DeMonte.
Private funeral services and interment in St. Joseph Cemetery were held at the convenience of the family.
